Bridgeport Proclaims “Urban Impact Day”

Proclamation

Whereas, the City of Bridgeport is proud to recognize Urban Impact (UI) enabling Programs. Founded in 2008, UI provides at-risk youth from Bridgeport – PT Barnum public housing complex, educational and mentoring opportunities through in-school & after-school activities

Whereas, in the past 12 months, Urban Impact Programs reached over 476 different students and has provided 9,183 hours in mentoring and 4821 hours in tutoring which include one-on-one and small group tutoring and mentoring with the purpose of helping youth achieve academic success, develop positive character traits and lead a fulfilling life; and,

Whereas, Urban Impact’s “Kid Power” program partners with the School Volunteer Association of Bridgeport to provide volunteers who spend one-on-one time with Kindergarten through 3rd grade students at Geraldine Claytor Magnet Academy School; and,

Whereas, these volunteers help students for up to 30 minutes during the school hours of 9am to 3pm on reading, writing and arithmetic; and,

Whereas, Urban Impact’s XLR8 program is a mentoring and tutoring program where volunteers help struggling students from the PT Barnum community with their homework at the Gary Crooks Community Center on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from 6:30 pm – 8:00 pm; and,

Whereas, Urban Impact’s PrimeTime program is a youth based program that focus on students grades 2 through 12 at the Geraldine Claytor Magnet Academy, providing a variety of activities, sports and Bible lessons on Monday and Tuesday nights from 5:30 pm to 8:00 pm and,

Whereas, Urban Impact facilitates High School boys’ basketball program on Monday nights from 8:00 pm to 9:30 pm

Now Therefore, I, Joseph P. Ganim, Mayor of the City of Bridgeport, Connecticut, on behalf of the citizens of Bridgeport, express our appreciation to Urban Impact and its community of collaborative partners have been providing mentoring and tutoring activities to at-risk students in the City of Bridgeport, for over ten years.
