SERVING WITH URBAN IMPACT

Urban Impact is an organization that is run mainly through volunteers.  We have over 100 people who serve with us on a weekly basis and we would love for you to join us in serving in one of our various programs.  Please read the descriptions below about ways to volunteer and contact us about getting started with an application.  All volunteers must go through an applications and screening process before serving in any of our programs with kids.  This process should not scare you, but should help you know that we value each and every volunteer.

Please contact us at info@urbanimpactct.org if you would like to serve.  We will contact you in return about how to get the process started.

5 Loaves (Monday Nights)

The 5 Loaves program in essence is a cooking program on Monday nights that teaches young adults and parents some simple cooking procedures and meal preparation techniques.  Volunteers are needed to help gather supplies for the week, prepare and help cook where needed and to guide the participants with their portion of meal preparation.  Set up will start at approximately 4:30 PM and end at 7:30 PM on Tuesday nights.  Time slots are available as late as 6:00 PM – 7:30 PM.

Prayer Support

Just Pray!  We ask that those who have the heart to email Tanja at tanja@urbanimpactct.org to simply ask our God for His grace and will for those who we have community with in PT. We send out a monthly email with prayer requests and we ask that those who are willing to use the email to pray for our neighbors.

KID POWER (M-F 9am-2pm)

The Kid Power program brings volunteers into the Geraldine Claytor Magnet Academy (GCMA), during the school hours of 9 AM to 2 PM, and provides one-on-one time with an adult and a child for up to 30-minute periods to work on reading, writing and arithmetic. The Kid Power program is built in cooperation with GCMA and the School Volunteer Association of Bridgeport. The assistance is at crisis level, so your help will make a difference whether it is one time per semester or one time per week. Time: 1-hour increments during the school week between 9AM and 2PM.

XLR8(Monday, Wednesday & Thursday6:30PM-8pm)

XLR8 volunteers come on Monday or Wednesday or Thursday and assist the PT Barnum students with homework, typing skills, art projects and worksheets. Through sustained relationships with the students each mentor/tutor gets to see students progress in academic and extracurricular activities and what method of learning the student is most receptive to.

High School Basketball Program

Each Monday night we run a basketball program from 8:00-9:30 PM.  If you love basketball or just investing in high school boys, please look to join us one Monday night.
